We are pleased to be able to announce the winners of the first annual JAET Essay Prize. This year, we were delighted to receive 20 submissions from both younger and more established scholars from 7 nations. To help us select the winners, we engaged scholars with relevant expertise to review the top submissions. As is standard for JAET, we used a double-blind peer review process in which submissions are anonymized and then assessed by two scholars with relevant expertise.Based on these reviews, we were able to identify one first-prize winner and three second-place winners.

Our hearty congratulations go to Modesto Biolango III for his winning essay: "Sakop-Orientation and Communal Sanctification: A Filipino Christian Cultural-Theological Reflection on Biblical Holiness."

We also wish to congratulate the authors of the three second-prize essays:— "Gospel-Centered Indigenous Church: Discussion on the Practice of Wang Mingdao's Thoughts" by Ni Buxiao— "Decolonizing Some Evangelical Beliefs through Indigenous Wisdom: Listening and Learning from Bontoc Ato Traditions" by Francis Jr. S. Samdao— "The Parable of the Rich Fool in the Context of Chinese Culture" by Michelle Wu

Congratulations! We look forward to seeing all four of these essays in an upcoming issue of JAET.We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the others who made submissions. Many of those that were not selected for the prize were nevertheless excellent, and authors will hear from us today regarding next steps in moving toward publication. We also wish to thank the Center for Theological Inquiry in Asia (CTIA) for sponsoring the JAET prize. Stay tuned for news coming soon about the 2026 JAET Essay prize!

The Journal of Asian Evangelical Theology, a ministry of the Asia Theological Association, is a peer-reviewed academic journal publishing original contributions that advance the state of biblical and theological reflection in the Asian evangelical context. Home to a vibrant Christian community and nearly two thirds of the worldwide population, Asia is increasingly the host and subject of deep theological reflection and rich biblical engagement. JAET seeks to stimulate and act as a forum for this creative scholarly work.

JAET is co-edited by Dr. Stephen T. Pardue and Dr. Beatrice Ang.

.

We welcome submissions that are:

Original

Demonstrating deep knowledge of the contemporary global landscape and offering a novel contribution to the field of theology and biblical studies, broadly construed.

Evangelical

Characterized by joyful confidence in the authority and truthfulness of Scripture and by an earnest desire to see the good news of Jesus permeating all aspects of faith and life. (For further guidance regarding our understanding of evangelical identity, see the statements of the Asia Theological Association.)

Contextually Relevant

Marked by attentiveness to and intentional engagement with Asian contexts. We recognize and welcome a diversity of approaches to contextual engagement.

.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions Should:

• be 6,000 - 8,000 words, inclusive of footnotes;
• be formatted according to the latest editions of Turabian and the Chicago Manual of Style;
not include any identifying information in the body of the article. For example, footnotes should not include phrasing such as “As I have argued elsewhere…” or “In my previous work…” Instead, any references to the author’s previous work should use the third person.

JAET will not accept submissions of articles that have been previously published in any form, though the editors may at times make exceptions for articles that have only been published in other languages. No article may be submitted to JAET if it is already being considered for publication in another venue.
